DIY Glow Serum in flat lay

I am a member of Young Living and you can purchase any essential oils you need through my link and find out more HERE on how to get your oils starter kit. These oils are high quality (Seed to Seal promise) and effective therefore making your own DIY glow serum a wonderful addition to my skincare routine. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask!

DIY Glow Serum

Today I shared my homemade glow serum recipe over on Instagram but in case you missed it here is all the info and supplies you will need!

My journey into clean beauty products started abut 2.5 years ago when I had my son. Pregnancy had me go through a sort of clean product renaissance, where I realized just how important it was to understand the ingredients of the products that I not only put in my body but also ON my body.

Now in my 30’s, I was in search of a serum that was hydrating, redness-reducing and brightening as well as fine line and wrinkle-fighting. I wanted the glow back!

But I was having trouble finding exactly what I wanted without the addition of questionable ingredients. Being an essential oil user and lover for many years already, I began to research specific oils for a DIY serum I could make at home. I loved this idea because I could make refills easily from the oils I trusted time after time. This was a money saver and I felt good knowing exactly what I was putting on my skin.

I bought myself a fancy glass bottle and it felt very special. Applying MY serum felt so natural and fun. It’s a routine I have loved doing every morning and night! My recipe changes based on my needs so today I’m sharing my current serum that I’ve been using for the past 6 months or so.

WHAT’S IN MY DIY GLOW SERUM?

Essential oils have truly transformed my and my family’s lives for the better and I’m so happy to be sharing and spreading the love to you all! I use the serum day and night, just 4 drops in the palm of my hand and then I gently pat it into my skin. Honestly, sometimes this is the only skin product I use! Since starting this serum about six months ago my skin has been physically smoother to the touch and visibly brighter and clearer.

Essential oils are naturally antibacterial and have so many different benefits for your skin, especially the ones I’m sharing in this recipe! Plus this serum has just FOUR ingredients, all of which I can pronounce🙌

The most mind-bowing part? All-in this serum only cost $9.35 in ingredients and an additional $1 if you use a simple amber glass bottle from Amazon!

Check out my entire (super simple), clean current skincare routine HERE!

A WORD ABOUT PURITY

Before we get started, let’s talk about purity for a minute.

Purity and quality counts when it comes to essential oils. These oils are distilled from plants, so the same way you want to make sure what your eating is pure and toxin-free, the same goes for oils!

At the very least, I recommend buying from the manufacturer directly, and not from a 3rd party source like Amazon. It’s very, very easy to pop the top off and replace them with an inferior essential oil – or something that doesn’t even resemble an oil, but smells like the real deal.

The last thing you want is to spend time and effort growing your garden, only to dump a bunch of toxins on them unknowingly.

Bottom line: Buy from a trusted source, just be sure the oil is pure, and the oil in the bottle is as advertised.

For me that trusted source is Young Living, truly no company compares to their Seed to Seal promise. Being a farmer myself and reading through their literature on farming practices and certifications, it’s clear to see they go BEYOND organic and are a company I can 100% trust with mine and my family’s health. Pus they are the only company I have seen being that transparent about their practices and standards which I really appreciate!

Shoot me an email or click this link for more info on the oils and products I used! And click here to read my story on how I got started with oils and DIY home products!

GET YOUR KIT NOW

1. Lavender

Bottle of Lavender Essential OilLavender essential oil is the perfect place to start and a must-have in every home. By far my favorite essential oil of all, it soothes and nourishes all skin types while also being a great redness-reducer, and is easy to incorporate into your skin care regimen every day. Comes in the starter kit!

Some extra ideas for lavender:

  • Add a drop to your hand, mix with facial moisturizer, and treat your skin to a mini facial massage.
  • Make a basic homemade body scrub by combining coconut oil, sugar, and Lavender oil. Start with 3–4 drops and gradually add more as desired.
  • Create a spa-like retreat by combining 1 cup Epsom salt and 4 drops Lavender and adding to a hot bath.

2. Frankincense

Frankincense Essential OilFrankincense essential oil has been sought after since ancient times for its many benefits, including its rejuvenating and beautifying properties. Great for all skin types—but especially beneficial for mature complexions—this luxurious oil helps moisturize and smooth the skin. Comes in the starter kit!

Some extra ideas for frankincense:

  • Boost your skin’s radiance by massaging a drop of Frankincense into facial skin after cleansing, followed by applying your regular moisturizers.
  • Add a few drops to your face cream or body lotion and rub directly into skin.
  • Massage into the skin on hands and feet after a long day to restore skin’s texture.

Geranium Essential Oil3. Geranium

Geranium essential oil is a popular choice to help smooth and tone skin. This essential oil is great for all skin types, but it’s especially beneficial for skin that’s either oily or dry.

  • Add a few drops of this essential oil to a DIY face mask or use it during a stress-reducing facial massage.
  • Add 4–5 drops to a water bottle with 2 ounces of water. Spritz lightly over skin for a refreshing, revitalizing effect.

Other beneficial essential oils for skin that you could experiment with safely are Ylang Ylang, Cedarwood, Rose, Tea Tree, Blue Tansy and Chamomile!

4. Jojoba (carrier oil)

I love using jojoba oil in my face serums because it’s complex is the most similar to that of our own, natural skin oils. That means not only is it super moisturizing but it absorbs easily and quickly, no greasy feeling, and promotes healing! Read more here on ALL the different benefits of amazing jojoba oil! I use this jojoba oil right from amazon, it’s the best quality!
