Winter Maternity Shoot Inspiration
When I found out my due date was in February one of my reactions was: what the heck kind of birthday party do you throw in the winter!? Haha slightly irrational but a thought I had nonetheless. I am a summer baby so I’ve gotten spoiled with pool parties and outdoor BBQ’s. Now my child has to have bowling alley and movie theater parties his whole life. Winter is just not totally my jam!
.
After the initial acceptance that I was having a winter baby (and after morning sickness subsided), I started to really LOVE my pregnancy, AND love my body. Despite gaining just over 40lbs. I honestly have NEVER felt more beautiful in my life. I was growing life, my body was changing, I felt GREAT (I know, I am VERY thankful) and I was so freaking excited to become a mother.
I am so thankful to have had an easy and uneventful pregnancy. By the end, I was so in love with my bump and my body that I HAD to do a couple last minute maternity shoots. I’ll be sharing more soon but for now, I wanted to share my favorite winter shoot to date (and most special). This shoot was done by my good friend and photographer, Jessica Miccio (check her out, especially if you are local to NY/CT!). We took these photos just four days before baby Luca joined us!
My Advice: Take Maternity Photos!
You guys know I love investing in beautiful photography. It is one of those things that I will always allot a budget for because photography, in general, has always been a passion of mine. I also love printing photos and making photo books. Anyway, all this to say I think it is so important to visually document your pregnancies. Even if you don’t feel great, or less than pretty (I know I was VERY lucky to have felt amazing). Even if it’s just a cell phone picture taken by your mom. Take the photos!
Documenting your pregnancy is something I assure you-you will look back on and appreciate. Despite how you feel in the moment, I know you will be so thankful for baby bump photos in retrospect!
Back to this shoot! It was so last minute and we were so lucky we got a little bit of snow. That’s the only time I really love the winter – when it looks like a snowy wonderland! I had ordered this dress from ASOS after browsing tons of sites and looking through countless inspo pins on Pinterest.
Go for Long Sleeves!
I was pleasantly surprised when I finally found this one via my friend Lauren McBride. And when I looked a little further I fell absolutely in love with the mauve-pink color (insert heart eyes)! The sequins and tulle compliment each other perfectly and I’m obsessed with the bell-sleeves. My dress is maternity but I’ve heard reports (from women in my Facebook Group) that the non-maternity version works with a bump as well. All styles are linked at the bottom of this post! Unfortunately, my color is not available anymore but I absolutely LOVE the blush that is still in stock!!
If you are lucky enough to have a bump in the winter I hope this gives you some inspiration to get out there and have a quick shoot! This one took all of 15 minutes and I will cherish these photos forever!
